I had the pleasure and privilege of knowing her more closely during my treatment for Endometrial Cancer at CNCI. I must admit that I have complete faith in her and trust her blindly. It is not just her expertise, but also her immense knowledge and remarkable ability to put patients at ease. With her ever-smiling demeanor, she explains every condition with such transparency and clarity that one instantly feels connected and reassured. For patients going through such critical health challenges, feeling connected to their doctor is invaluable, and she ensures that every patient experiences exactly that. She is always available whenever I have even the slightest concern about my health and responds almost immediately. I truly could not have asked for more. They say doctors are like God, and I wholeheartedly agree. But for me, she is my GOAT — the Greatest of All Time.

Our family will always be grateful to Dr. Dipanwita Banerjee for guiding us through one of the most difficult phases of our lives. My mother was initially scheduled for a hysterectomy, but a D&C performed beforehand revealed malignancy. What we thought was a routine gynecological issue suddenly became a cancer diagnosis, leaving us overwhelmed and searching for the right specialist. One of the biggest lessons we learned is how important it is to consult a gynecologic oncologist when malignancy is suspected or diagnosed. The complexity of diagnosis, surgery, staging, and treatment planning requires specialized expertise, and that expertise is exactly what we found in Dr. Banerjee. From our very first consultation, she gave us confidence. She patiently explained every step, answered our questions, and helped us navigate a journey filled with uncertainty. My mother's surgery was subsequently performed under her care, and throughout the process, Dr. Banerjee demonstrated exceptional skill, professionalism, and compassion. As a daughter, watching a parent battle cancer is incredibly difficult. Knowing that my mother was in the hands of someone as experienced, dedicated, and caring as Dr. Banerjee gave our family immense reassurance. We approached her looking for one of the best gynecologic oncologists, and we found not only an outstanding doctor and surgeon but also someone who genuinely cared for her patient and her family. Thank you ma'am, for your expertise, compassion, and unwavering support. We will always be grateful.

I recently visited the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI), Newtown campus, for treatment under Dr. Dipanwita Banerjee (Specialist Gynaecological Oncologist). I cannot praise Dr. Banerjee and her entire team enough. The medical care, surgical expertise, and level of compassion I experienced at this state-of-the-art facility were truly outstanding. During my time there, Dr. Banerjee spoke about a critical issue that I feel responsible for sharing with everyone: A Gynecologist and a Gynecologic Oncologist are NOT the same, and mixing them up can delay life-saving care. Most of us grow up believing that a general gynecologist is the only doctor we need for any reproductive issue. However, if there is a complex pelvic mass, an abnormal biopsy, or a confirmed/suspected cancer of the cervix, ovaries, or uterus, you must consult a Gynecologic Oncologist (a cancer specialist). They have years of intensive, advanced surgical and medical oncology training that general gynecologists simply do not have. Getting to the right specialist at the very beginning drastically improves treatment success. My experience under Dr. Dipanwita Banerjee is a testament to how specialized, dedicated care changes lives. She is not only an incredibly brilliant, highly skilled specialist but also a deeply empathetic doctor who takes the time to explain everything clearly and put her patients at ease. CNCI Newtown is an incredible institution providing world-class, affordable cancer care in Kolkata. If you or a loved one are facing complex gynecological health challenges, please bypass the general clinic and ensure you are seeing a dedicated Gynaec Oncologist like Dr. Banerjee. Thank you, Doctor, and thank you CNCI!

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions, answered directly

Who is the best gynaecological oncologist in Kolkata?

Dr. Dipanwita Banerjee is a Senior Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI), Kolkata. She holds an MCh in Gynaecological Oncology from AIIMS New Delhi — the highest surgical qualification in the field — and has over 14 years of experience treating cervical, ovarian, uterine, and vulvar cancers.

What cancers does Dr. Dipanwita Banerjee treat?

Dr. Banerjee specialises in all gynaecological cancers: cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine (endometrial) cancer, vulvar cancer, and vaginal cancer. She also performs advanced procedures including robotic surgery, cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC, and colposcopy-guided cervical cancer screening.

What's the difference between a gynaecologist and a gynaecologic oncologist?

A general gynaecologist manages routine reproductive health — periods, pregnancy, fibroids, and standard screening. A gynaecologic oncologist, like Dr. Banerjee, completes additional years of specialised surgical oncology training (MCh) focused exclusively on cancers of the female reproductive organs — cervix, ovaries, uterus, vulva, and vagina. This includes complex cancer staging surgery, cytoreductive surgery, and coordinating chemotherapy and radiation with other specialists. For a suspected or confirmed gynaecological cancer, being seen directly by a gynaecologic oncologist is associated with more accurate staging and better surgical outcomes.

What are the early symptoms of ovarian cancer, and is it hereditary?

Ovarian cancer symptoms are often subtle and easy to mistake for common digestive or menstrual issues — persistent bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, feeling full quickly after eating, and changes in urinary frequency or urgency. Because there is no routine screening test for ovarian cancer, awareness of these symptoms and prompt evaluation matter. A family history of ovarian or breast cancer, or a BRCA1/BRCA2 gene mutation, significantly increases risk. Dr. Banerjee's team can guide patients through genetic risk assessment and counselling where relevant.

How can I book a consultation with Dr. Dipanwita Banerjee?

You can book a consultation by calling or WhatsApp at +91 62916 81013, or by emailing dr.dipanwita@yahoo.co.in. She consults at Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) New Town, Kolkata.

What is CNCI New Town Kolkata?

Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) New Town is a premier cancer care centre located at 299, DJ Block, Action Area 1D, New Town, Kolkata 700160. It is a government-aided autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health, Government of India, specialising exclusively in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Does Dr. Dipanwita Banerjee perform robotic surgery for gynaecological cancers?

Yes. Dr. Banerjee is trained in robotic gynaecological surgery and performs minimally invasive robotic procedures for cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and other gynaecological malignancies, offering patients faster recovery and reduced surgical trauma compared to open surgery.

What is the HPV vaccine and should women in India get it?

The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine protects against the strains of HPV that cause over 95% of cervical cancers. Dr. Banerjee strongly recommends HPV vaccination for girls aged 9–26 years, and in some cases up to age 45. India now has a domestically produced HPV vaccine (Cervavac), making it more accessible. Vaccination combined with regular cervical screening is the most effective prevention strategy.

What is colposcopy and when is it needed?

Colposcopy is a detailed examination of the cervix using a magnifying instrument called a colposcope. It is recommended when a Pap smear or HPV test shows abnormal results. Dr. Banerjee performs colposcopy to identify pre-cancerous changes in the cervix early, enabling treatment before cancer develops.
